For the amusement of Sister!

Posted on 2008.02.25 at 16:46

Ok, I know I never post on this, ever.  But I was looking through my pictures for some new ones to decorate with and found two of them that bear a striking resemblance to each other...

Coincidence?

The Internets...

...have become too dangerous!

I'm starting media lockdown early.  I think my e-mail is still safe, but other than that I'll be gone until HP is finished (prolly Sunday).

Hi everyone,  as I've stated before, there's nothing to do at work.  So I was looking through the pictures on my computer and found this set from a casting project I did in November.   The project is by far the most advanced one I've ever done with successful results, but before you click the cut, be aware that the casting is of a real life sheep's head that I picked up at the local butcher shop. Also, there are a ton of pictures behind the cut.

Things I do while bored at work

Posted on 2007.06.06 at 12:32
Yay, only 1 1/2 weeks of work left!  Since we literally have nothing to do, I decided I needed to improve my sewing skills.  How you ask?  Why by making clothing for myself of course.  I love that its just work related enough to get away with (though its not like my boss cares, he's just whiling away the time on the internets!).  Anyway, I made a bunch of stuff, but not all of it fits me :(-which I guess was why I've been working on it to begin with.

T-shirt time!

This post is for [info]odd_on_purpose as a preview for her forthcoming t-shirt.

Ok, so I know I never write on the livejournal anymore, but I figured why not start again since I'll have nothing but time this summer with the not working and all.

Anyway, I got my new camera today and thought I'd post some pictures while bored and on lunch break...

Population of New York City- 8,085,742 (according to 2003 Census)

Number of streets in Manhattan- 300 (approximation)

Chances I would run into Jeff Lee on Astor Place in the East Village today- not very good. But run into him I did

Ladies and Gentlemen, a truly bizarre New York moment.

I have conquered the wireless modem!

Finally I have the internet hooked up at home.  It was an arduous process that involved me being forced to have Verizon Tech Support register me since my disk wasn't working.  I love Hindi accents, but not when some poor guy is reading me a long alphanumeric username and password. I think we were both equally frustrated. There are way too many letters that sound almost the same in the English language.  But I digress, as the real reason I was posting is to put up pictures of Lee and Marisa's wedding!

It is hot

I've been in New York for about 2 1/2 weeks now. Since i only have $1 to spend at the internet cafe, I will provide a brief list of things that are great and things that suck in NYC.

Things that are Great

1. My apartment
2. My Greek landlady who brings me delicious souvlaki and pita (homemade)
3. My new job (I haven't actually started, but the production mtg. yesterday was great)
4. Being able to see boyfriend on a regular basis
5. Having reliable cell phone service(yay new Verizon phone)

Things that Suck

1. Power outages (I didn't know what my apartment looked like with lights until 1 week after move in)
2. Hotness (but the airconditioner for my bedroom comes at 4pm today)
3. Boyfriend having to work overtime everyday and being to exhausted to even watch TV with me on sofa
4. The fact that power conservation means they shut of the lights in the subway cars--uber creepy.
5. The threat of more power outages (though the footage on TV of manhole fires fascinates me)

Anyway, once I get DSL at home I will post pics of the new place as well as of Lee's wedding (which was awesome).

my new address

I found an apartment! I am so excited about it, I love it. I looked at 5 today but loved this one so much that I signed a lease right away. In the words of my mother, why look at ten more places when you've found the one you want? Its in Astoria on the Ditmars Ave. N&W stop. Five minute walk from the train station (normal speed, I bet I could do it faster if it were snowing). Its on Steinway right near the Ditmars Ave. intersection. Tons of shops and a laundromat around the corner on Ditmars. I now also have a crazy Greek landlady, she was funny, I had to go over there for what apparently was an inspection to make sure I wasn't a freak. But all was well and I signed the lease, which starts July 7th and now I have a nice little vacationy weekend-- I don't have pics of the inside, but here's the building and a ground plan I drew so you can know what it looks like!

Eep!

Finally back from Italy. Rome was great, I got to see everything I wanted to including Pompeii and the Sistine Chapel (but I advise everyone to not go to the Vatican in the summer). With the World Cup happening it seemed like all the Germans who weren't interesting in soccer came to Italy. Very crowded in general, but Elizabeth and I got a break since we had an apartment on a nice quiet street instead of staying in a hotel. Anyway, for better written details about our trip, I'm sure [info]odd_on_purpose will have a better entry up later in the week.

In other news, I had to start being a grownup today. I gave notice on my apartment and called 3 moving companies to come out for estimates on Monday. This weekend I need to do endless hours of apartment searching--I leave on Wednesday for NYC to look for a place! Hopefully I will find something I love. I have one meeting with a broker on Thursday in Astoria. I'm thinking somewhere in Queens or Brooklyn-better commute from Queens though apparently. I also need to make an appointment with HR at Tisch to get all my medical/benefits stuff set up. Then I get to come back and start packing!

I'm hopefully moving sometime between July 10th and the 17th, since I need to be in NY by the 22nd and I'd like to have a couple weeks to get settled before I start on the 7th. Any suggestions on areas in NYC that I should look at next week would be great!

I have a job!

I just found out this morning that I got the job at NYU I interviewed for two weeks ago.  Yay job!  Now I get to move to New York and can support myself.  Much better than the alternate plan of staying in W-S and working at the Bed Bath and Beyond.  I am beyond excited...but now time for bed.

Graduation tomorrow!!!

Posted on 2006.05.29 at 21:24
Rome Itinerary is set!!! One week from today I will be eating massive amounts of gelato at the Trevi Fountain.

...

Oh yeah, and I graduate on Saturday.

don't get to excited

Posted on 2006.05.21 at 00:11
but I'm updating this thing again. Two weeks until graduation, my thesis is approved and I'm left with very little to do actually. Three job interviews so far and another this Thursday. I had a good interview last Thursday, but I'm not going to jinx it by writing about it. If I get the job I'll let you know.

I have some class work for paint to finish and I'm planning on doing some woodturning while I still have access to a lathe, but I've mostly been knitting all weekend. Last night I finishes my vest from Knit & Tonic, which i think is damn cute.

My trip to New York was great.  I finally got to see the new MOMA in all its glory (plus there was an awesome Edward Munch exhibit happening).  I still don't understand people who bring there cameras to an art museum to have their picture taken in front of it (or, perhaps more importantly, why cameras are allowed in the MOMA at all).  I ate at Grays Papaya, Rays Pizza and the Carnagie Deli.  I think my interview (main reason for the trip) went really well also, though I won't know how well for another month.

Stuff

After seeing Somer's knitting/crochet projects I thought I'd show you what I did over spring break.

The pattern is Honeymoon from Knitty.com. I used Shine yarn from knitpicks, only $1.79 a skein! So I made the top for less than I could have bought similar one for--awesome. I also just finished the first of my pair of socks, which I will post when I finish the second.

I love junk shops

My designer and I went to a junk shop to look for some furniture on Friday. No luck with that, but we found this amazing door...

According to our patented JawamaticTM technology, you are most like Han Solo in personality.

Han Solo is down-to-earth and improvisational, cool-headed and cynical. Appeals to emotion rarely sway him, but as he matured throughout the saga, he let his less-well-developed compassionate side show occasionally.

Solo is, in a word, cool.
